The Behaviour’s PEDESTALS is a guitar-driven vinyl EP built for late-night spins on a turntable, a study in weight, glow and analog warmth. Fuzz-drenched guitars, spectral harmonies and a saturated, tape-like feel make this vinyl record a perfect fit for fans of immersive shoegaze, neo-psych and modern blues rock on wax.
Led by multi-instrumentalist and producer Marshall Kilpatric, this PEDESTALS vinyl edition centers on “Dark, Not Quiet”, a slow-burn standout where reverb-soaked tension gradually erupts into clear, melodic release. It is the kind of track that unfolds beautifully on vinyl, dynamic, spacious and heavy without losing detail.
Across the EP, Kilpatric threads shoegaze drift with modern blues grit where “MK Ultra” drives forward on a riff-heavy pulse and a psychic, overdriven glare. “Phantom Hands” opens up into widescreen melody, all ringing chords and atmosphere. “Invisible Sun” reframes a classic with a dusky neo-psych feel. The EP closer, "The Reckoning", completes the release as a darkly intimate push-pull, weaving a poetic tapestry with lush sonic textures, bringing it all to a dynamic crescendo and leaving the listener wanting more.
Known for work with The Esoteric and credits intertwined with Today Is the Day and Black Light Burns, Kilpatric takes full creative command here, handling drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals, tracked at Quaternal Studios in Massachusetts. The mixes by Paul Malinowski (with Eric Graves on “MK Ultra”) and mastering by Mike Nolte give the vinyl master depth, punch and low-end weight without smoothing out the edges. The noise breathes, the room stays in the frame and the analog character comes through the speakers.
Lyrically, PEDESTALS explores proximity and perception, things that feel just out of reach and then suddenly close. “The things you see are closer than they appear.” That theme runs through the production as well, with distortion as veil, melody as signal and volume as a way of telling the truth. On vinyl, that contrast between haze and clarity becomes even more physical.
Collecting The Behaviour’s three 2025 singles and introducing new material, PEDESTALS marks a focused evolution, less about genre boundaries and more about emotional clarity inside heavy, immersive sound. As a shoegaze and neo-psych rock vinyl EP, it is designed to be played loud, landing right where darkness meets definition.
